ROBILANT+VOENA. ITALIAN POST-WAR SCULPTURE

Somaini 0214

Between Figuration and Abstraction

On the occasion of Frieze Masters 2017, in the London branch of the gallery, Robilant+Voena hosts an exhibition, curated by Francesca Pola, on Italian postwar sculpture . This exhibition presents works created during the pivotal moment after the war when Italian sculptors rejected the past and redefined the meaning, purpose and manifestation of their art. As sculptors built new and extraordinary forms, concurrently, their country built a new and buoyant Italy.
Sculptors represented include Andrea Cascella, Pietro Consagra, Lucio Fontana, Marino Marini, Umberto Mastroianni, Fausto Melotti, Eduardo Paolozzi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Alberto Viani and Francesco Somaini (Da sotto la polvere: quasi un volo (la guerra ritorna), 1967-69, bronze in nickel bath, 23,8×38,3×26 cm).
